MAME is very unlikely to ever be labeled v1.0 so the current scheme just means adding one to the minor version until the end of time.This versioning would eliminate the need for that research. Thank goodness MAME is very comprehensive with it's a release notes and that's fairly easy information to come by, but many don't take that step. Right now in order to determine when builds like 0.241, 0.139, or 0.37 were published, you have to Google it.
